XCO3 - A low cost Crystal Oscillator Module
For any standard 7 x 5 mm Oscillator
The assembled prototype
✈ Motivation • Design Criteria
On one hand, we wanted a calibrated Source for the EMC-Precompliance Setup.
On the other hand, a Source to study the Harmonics of a Standard Crystal Oscillator
was desirable.
This is a board to house any 7 x 5 mm Crystal Oscillator. A Voltage Regulator
supplies it with a stable 3.3 V / 5 V, max. 100 mA. We used the SO-8 78LXX type
Voltage Regulator for that.
In order to use 50 Ω Measurement Gear, a massive Output Divider (30 dB)
does this matching thing, without loading the Oscillator too much.

The CMOS oscillator creates beautiful Harmonics (FSP is 50Ω)
Whilst in the time domain it is close to a squarewave (SCOPE is Hi-Z)
