Software Defined Radio : Rapid Bleaching
This is in fact a very short introduction. Useful if you don't have time to read the manual(s). You need
a DVB-T Receiver with an USB connector (and an RTL2832U chipset). The software installation will be explained here.
Setup Drivers
The installation can be done in two steps :
Add/Replace USB driver, using (e.g.)
zadig
Install
SDRSharp
Plug in your DVB-T Stick in a USB port. Windows™ will then install a driver automatically. Now start
zadig_2.1.0.exe
or any later version. Select
options and put a tick at
list all devices. Your Stick now shows up in the list of the devices
connected via usb. Choose it and click on
Replace Driver (Administrator privileges necessary).
NOTE : Unplugging the dvb-t stick may cause this action to be repeated.
Now download and unzip the SDRSharp archive. Run the
install.bat file. When starting the software (after installation completed),
choose
Source / RTL-SDR USB.
Remarks
In fact a nice gadget. As usual the golden rule applies here, also : you get what you pay for. You will soon want to use a better antenna,
possibly optimised to your frequency of interest. The display will show a lot of frequencies, which are not there : images of whatever
is found in digital logic. And last but not least, the span is limited to a maximum of approx. 2 MHz. (Sampling rate) A 20 EUR dvb-t stick
is not a spectrum analyser. But the software is beautiful. An appropriate tool for education - where the overloading of the input will
not cost a fortune :-)
