The CATV Line Amplifier from Qorvo offers high gain (22 dB) as well as high power over a large bandwidth. Unfortunately the datasheet does not specify the maximum available power when using for a single carrier. You may do some sophisticated guess, based on the current consumption. Or you use our measurements.




Circuit Description








The Circuit uses a GVA-81+ from Mini-Circuits as a driver (+10 dB), operated directly at the +34V Supply via two 150 Ω, 3 W Resistors. The output of this driver is ac-coupled to the input of the CATV Amplifier RFPD3580 from Qorvo (Mouser, 772-RFPD3580, CHF 133.-, 10/2023). The capacitors are not critical. We use 4.7 µF, 1206, for ac-coupling of the stages. The coil for biasing the GVA-81+ is a BLM31AJ601SN1L (Murata), obtained from Farnell. In case you need more Gain, you mayst exchange the GVA-81+ with a GALI-74+ or anything else. (Check Bias Resistors !) Online Bias Calculator




1 dB Compression Point




The figure below shows, that compression starts at an input level of 0 dBm. Data measured at f = 470 MHz. Supply : 24 V and 34 V, 500 mA


almost +33 dBm = 1 W @ 24 V
almost +36 dBm = 4 W @ 34 V

✈ Summary




This one is a little bit more expensive (EUR 137, Mouser 10/2023) but you get a lot of Performance in return. From now on, this is the one used in our AOM Controllers !
